Matt Jordan, M.Sc., CSCS

Matt Jordan, a native of Ottawa, Canada, moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1992 to train at the Olympic Oval as a competitive athlete. Shortly after arriving in Calgary, Matt began to focus on a career in strength and conditioning. As Matt completed his undergraduate degree in Kinesiology he competed in Olympic style weightlifting and participated in several styles of martial arts.

In 1998, Matt began his strength coaching career working with speed skaters and hockey players at the Olympic Oval.  In 2003, Matt completed a Master of Science in Exercise Physiology at the University of Calgary.  His area of specialization was exercse and muscle physiology, and his research focused on the effects of whole-body vibration on neuromuscular function.  He presented is findings at the 8th Annual European College of Sport Science Conference in Salzburg, Austria. Since completing his Master of Science, Matt has authored and co-authored several
peer reviewed articles on vibration training and he has been involved in research projects investigating adaptations to resistance training.  

Matt Jordan is now a strength and physiology consultant with the Canadian Sport Centre-Calgary and he also runs Jordan Strength Athlete Development which is his Calgary based company. Matt is the personal strength coach to numerous World and Olympic medalists, and has worked with elite athletes in many sports including speed skating, cross country skiing, alpine skiing, snowboarding, biathlon, hockey, football, volleyball and mixed martial arts. Throughout his career, Matt has been involved with over 30 world championship and Olympic medal performances, and he has helped many developing athletes and members of the general public with their health, fitness and performance goals.  Matt has is a lecturer in the Faculty of Kinesiology at the University of Calgary and has published many articles on strength and conditioning for athletes. He has also presented at National and International conferences on strength training methods for high performance athletes
.

In his spare time, Matt enjoys watching documentaries and reading.  He is a strong believer in the importance of exercise for health and fitness, and he regularly participates in strength training, running, swimming and boxing.  Matt's favourite way to spend his time, however, is playing with his two-year old son Kieran and their dog Roxy.
